I hope he'll come back.
I'm always so excited to see pictures of newly obtained cabs, to see what time has done to it, and to know what the owner is going to do with it, where he displays it etc.

Anyway, DON'T MAME YOUR CAB ! There is regular cabs for that kind of things, dedicated cabs are for dedicated games, it's a piece of history, don't destroy it !

The version of the game is not defined by the data (here the hard disc) but by the boot rom, which might not be original if your game doesn't recognize any version.
Usually the boot rom is modified to permit the use of another hard drive brand (than seatgate) or a flash kit.
I don't know any case like yours, but it may be it.

No, what i'm saying is the version of the game does not depend of the data (hard drive or flash kit), but with the bootrom.

In fact, when they updated the game, they only changed the bootrom, it's the core of the game, only the graphics are inside the drive, and the sound is in the other roms.

You can clearly see it on this picture, which also explains how to convert KI to KI2, by just swapping the Rom Set and Hard Drvie, the board is the same

To make it short, if you have an original Killer Instinct 2 Seatgate hard drive in working condition, keep it, these things are getting quite rare and your problem does not come from the drive, maybe from the board or boot rom.

thats why i was implying i would put a new u98 on there and the flash disk and store the hdd and chip somewhere safe =D  would fix my boot rom problem right?

Does not hurt to get a flash kit, I would just go ahead and do so.

If your game works i don't see any problem...
But yeah, Flash Kit makes the game run faster so go on, you won't regret.
