I have that same issue and I been to other forums and lots of people say they have the same issues. I'm using the U64 emulator and Maximus Arcade frontend and both KI and KI2 will sound good till around when I'm close to Eyedol or Gargos, then it will sound glitchy, then after a while it will go back to normal. A user on a forum suggests to try using U64 platinum, but since your using MAME it might be something on the roms for both U64 and MAME. I know for a fact that it is not a sound card issue also or Windows issue , since I have ran U64 on Windows 7 to the same effect. You can try lowering the volume on the game itself by pressing + on the keyboard once the game goes into its promotion screen, then pressing - to lower the volume. It will be a red vertical bar with Orchid's stage song playing. You can try that. I have mine set to alittle bit over half.
